Grignard Pure is an innovative technology – called a “virus inactivator” – that will combat the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease. It works quickly, safely, and effectively by reducing the number of viral particles in indoor locations, where the virus is most dangerous – in the air.

This has been proven in 3rd party testing by a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized lab.

First, hundreds of millions of people around the world have been exposed to a product with properties identical to Grignard Pure over the past 20 years without a single health concern ever reported. In addition to those referenced above, these exposures range from the Louvre Museum in Paris to conventions to banquets, where food is served.

More important, the ingredients in Grignard Pure have been subjected to rigorous testing and shown to be safe.

Studies conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control’s National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and assessment by the EPA indicates the ingredients are safe with no endpoints. There are no OSHA, NIOSH or ACGIH safety limits Exposure Criteria.

Intrinsik (Intertek) conducted a Toxicity Review Assessment (TRA) in May, 2020 which confirmed the product is safe for use, when used as directed and exposed to a population for extended periods of time.

Over-the-counter disinfectants like Lysol and Clorox do perform what is called “hard surface, non-porous” disinfection – and are one important component of a safety strategy. These products are actually on the EPA ‘List N’ list of products approved for “episodic intervention.” Unfortunately, there are several limitations to their overall effectiveness:

In order to inactivate the virus on a hard, non-porous surface, a disinfectant must remain wet on the surface for a specified “dwell time” before wiping it off.   Over two-thirds of List N products require at least five minutes “dwell time,” and for many products, including Lysol and Clorox, using as directed typically requires that the product remain wet on a surface for 10 minutes or longer before wiping.

This makes it nearly impossible to properly disinfect vertical or hard-to-reach surfaces.

Grignard Pure is the only available airborne “virus inactivator” that can inactivate, or “destroy,” the SARS-CoV-2 virus in a use pattern (in the air) and in locations that these disinfectants are not effective.

Grignard Pure creates what is called “continuous intervention,” which simply means that the air treatment technology is continuously working to inactivate the virus where it is most dangerous – in the air.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s List N (https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2-covid-19) is a list of disinfectants approved for use

against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19. )

While “surface disinfectant” products on List N have not been tested specifically against SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19, EPA expects them to kill the virus because they:

  • Demonstrate efficacy (e.g. effectiveness) against a harder-to-kill virus; or

  • Demonstrate efficacy against another type of human coronavirus similar to SARS-CoV-2.

However, these surface disinfectant products (which include common household brand names like Lysol and Clorox) only work to kill viruses on hard, non-porous surfaces such as counters and doorknobs. In addition, using these products as directed requires that they remain wet on a surface for ten minutes before being wiped off..

The EPA currently does not have a definition for an aerial disinfectant, or airborne virus inactivator, like Grignard Pure. This is the process we recommend in order to meet all government requirements and benefit from the efficacy and safety of Girgnard Pure’s viricidal properties:

1. Contact Grignard

2. We will submit the application to your State
3. We will also provide a letter for your company to send to the appropriate  State Agency
4. The State Agency will then forward the application to the EPA for an emergency exemption
5. The EPA then approves the product for use in your State
Grignard is submitting the required documents for EPA certification for the new use as an airborne disinfectant / virus inactivator but the government process may take up to 5 years.

The use of Grignard Pure as an effective tool to combat the spread of COVID-19 is new. Products like Grignard Pure have been used safely all around us for over 20 years. If you have been to a Broadway play, a live music performance, or a stage show at a theme or amusement park, you’ve probably “seen” the product in use.

Grignard Pure creates a non-hazardous, light air treatment throughout an indoor space.  At entertainment venues like those listed above, event producers use the product to create lighting and other effects that add to the overall experience.

The safety of air treatment products like Grignard Pure is proven by their long history of use without any reported health concerns.  NIOSH concluded that air treatment product like this did not affect people with asthma.  The EPA has said that the active ingredient in Grignard Pure does not cause harm when inhaled.

Locations where Grignard Pure is being used to provide protection against airborne microbes will have numerous and prominent signs posted, to advise people who might have questions about their own health and to give them the clear option not to enter the facility should they not feel comfortable.

There are several key reasons why Grignard Pure should be an essential component of a strategy to ensure people can congregate safely in indoor environments:

  • Grignard Pure is one of only a very few available products that inactivates an airborne virus like the SARS-CoV-2 virus, in contrast with the disinfectants identified on EPA’s “List N – Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2” that are approved only for use on hard surfaces.
  • The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) May 22, 2020 press release, that explains how COVID-19 spreads, confirms the need for Grignard Pure. The SARS-CoV-2 virus spreads easily and sustainably from person to person. The primary route of transmission is through contact with respiratory droplets produced when a nearby infected person coughs, sneezes, or just talks. It may be possible for COVID-19 to spread from touching the mouth, eyes and nose after touching surfaces or objects that have the virus on it; however, CDC does not think this is the main way the virus spreads.
  • Grignard Pure works quickly, as the pathogenic particles leave the person from talking, coughing, or sneezing, reducing the risk of infections. This is a major advantage because disinfecting a hard surface makes it safe only until an infected person coughs or sneezes on it.

Grignard Pure, when used as directed, will promote the opening of the economy, including entertainment venues, retail establishments, commercial buildings, restaurants, and mass transit. In addition, further testing may indicate that Grignard Pure could help enable the relaxation of social distancing guidelines

Grignard Pure is an air treatment solution closely related to Grignard Company’s family of theatrical lighting effects products. These products have been in use all around us for more than twenty years in stage shows, sporting events, musical concerts, houses of worship, corporate trade shows and conventions, awards shows and numerous other events and activities. Over that time, millions of people around the world have been exposed for extended periods of time without one reported instance of eye or skin irritation or health concern from inhalation.

This gets a little technical, but it is important to know: Grignard Pure forms small droplets that float in the air. The active ingredient in the Grignard Pure vapor and nanoparticles actually condense on virus particles, reaching a lethal germicidal level. The active ingredient in the droplets then permeate into the virus, disrupting the protein and membrane structure of the virus with its amphiphilic properties.

What this simply means is that Grignard Pure can inactivate the virus quickly, as the pathogenic particles leave the person from talking, coughing, sneezing – significantly reducing what is the primary cause of infection.

An EPA-recognized lab for airborne viral testing, conducted a series of rigorous tests in May, 2020.  The results show that Grignard Pure inactivates more than 99% of the airborne virus particles in less than 1 minute. The tested virus is considered harder to kill than the SARS-CoV-2 virus, indicating that Grignard Pure’s inactivation (or kill) rate may be even greater. After less than 1 minute the number of surviving virus colonies were below detection limits.

The reduction of viruses is directly related to viral load. Since the viral load will be decreased, the risk of infection is correspondingly reduced.

Grignard Pure can be used in nearly every indoor environment where people will be in close contact for extended periods of time. Grignard Pure can be very helpful in places like hospitals, nursing homes, medical offices, indoor entertainment and social congregation areas, schools, indoor athletic facilities, indoor public areas, transportation vehicles, ambulances, institutional kitchens, cafeterias, restaurants, public restrooms, hotels, indoor garbage and refuse centers, shower and bath areas, HVAC and R equipment, dental offices, healthcare facilities, intensive care facilities, law enforcement facilities, prisons, courts, and other enclosed areas.
